Swimming in thermal water

The indoor pool

The indoor pool at Hotel Sonngastein is filled with 100% genuine Gastein thermal water – something you feel from the very first dip. Soft, warm and pleasant at around 30°C, with a counter-current system for anyone who wants to swim a few lengths. Directly connected is a light-filled winter garden with panoramic views of the Gastein mountains.

Chat, splash, relax

The social pool

The social pool is the lively outdoor pool at Sonngastein. Perfect for the whole family, with 33°C warm water and massage jets to relax the muscles. From the indoor pool, you can swim through a lock directly outside – with views of the Hohe Tauern and fresh mountain air on your face.

Underwater music

The classic pool

The classic pool is the calmest retreat in the outdoor area – reserved for adults and young people aged 14 and over. At 33°C, warm water and classical underwater music by Mozart, Vivaldi and Beethoven help you unwind, while the Hohe Tauern peaks come into view. On the sun terrace, this wonderful feeling continues as you read, enjoy a coffee, soak up the sun or simply do nothing at all.

Thermal water: The special water of the Gastein Valley - Hotel Sonngastein

The special water of the Gastein Valley

Thermal water

Bad Gastein owes its reputation as a spa town to a special natural treasure: its thermal water. 17 springs feed the valley with water that emerges from the ground at up to 48°C and has been valued for its healing qualities for centuries. It is especially known for helping with muscle and tendon complaints, rheumatic conditions and recovery. At Hotel Sonngastein, your hotel with a thermal-water pool in Bad Gastein, you can enjoy this water in the indoor pool, filled with 100% genuine Gastein thermal water. It is slightly mineralised, silky-soft and soothing for the skin and the whole body.

The natural noble gas radon, originally found in Gastein thermal water, is highly volatile and is no longer present in our indoor pool. For those who would like to experience natural, warm thermal water in its original form, we offer special thermal bubble baths at the hotel.
