A modern, extensive ski area

Gastein runs one of the largest and most modern ski-lift systems in Austria, accessing over 220 fantastic kilometers of piste. Here you’ll find some of Austria’s longest and most enjoyable ski runs.

Naturally our large ski area offers plenty of choice for skiers of all abilities with an extensive selection of easy, medium and difficult slopes. One thing you will definitely miss out on here – long queuing times at the lifts…

Up to a height of 2700 meters, the resort is guaranteed snow, and we are connected to one of the largest ski networks in Austria – “Sport world Amadé” with its more than 800 kilometers of piste!

Leave your car in the car park: Our hotel ski bus runs 9 x per day and will take you the 8-minute journey to and from the main skiing areas!

Further winter fun activites

But skiing isn’t the only kind of winter fun on offer: Near to the hotel are light and sunny cross-country ski routes, in fact Gastein has over 70 kilometers of routes to suit all levels of ability.

If you fancy a winter stroll, well maintained winter walking routes lead directly from the hotel, our own ice-stock shooting area is always fun, and of course there’s the chance to do a bit of sledging with a selection of sledges, toboggans and skibobs available free of charge.

The Gastein valley is the highest lying ski area in Salzburg, and thanks to its state-of-the-art artificial snow making equipment, is guaranteed snow from the beginning of December until the middle of April – even at Easter you can still enjoy a skiing holiday with us!

Oh yes, and naturally something that belongs to a winter holiday: a really cosy open fire room  where you can sit in front of the crackling log fire, watching the flames flicker and enjoy a glass of mulled wine or hot punch – of course that’s all here at Hotel Sonngastein!
