Winter in the Gastein Valley
In winter, the Gastein valley is counted as one the best ski resorts in Austria, with its modern lift system and 220 kilometers of prepared piste. It is also connected to the “Sport world Amade” ski network with over 800 kilometers of piste. Cross-country skiers have over 90 kilometers of prepared routes of varying difficulties to choose from. Then there’s snowshoe walking, ice-stock shooting, and ice-skating to round up the choice of winter activities on offer.
Places to visit
Within the area you will find many outstanding places to visit: Salzburg, capital of the region is within easy reach, with its quaint old town and a high quality cultural life. The fascinating natural attraction “Eisriesenwelt” in Werfen, (the largest ice caves in the world) the Liechtenstein and Kitzlochklamm gorges, the dam in Kaprun, and embedded into the alpine scenery is the Großglockner high alpine road leading to Austria’s highest mountain and one of the most famous places to visit. A little further on are the Krimmler falls, Europe’s largest waterfall!
