Travelling to Gastein

How to find our hotel.

Coming from the South, i.e. Italy, Yugoslavia, Carinthia or Styria, you reach our valley by a car-train that leads you from Mallnitz through the Alps to Böckstein near Bad Gastein. From the south-west you drive via Toblach, Silian, Lienz, Winklern and Obervellach, from the south you drive on the motorway via Villach and from the south east you drive on the motorway via Klagenfurt and Villach until Millstätter See where the motorway ends and you continue on the national route NR. 106 until you reach Obervellach and from there Mallnitz. (In case of snow you’ll need winter tyres there).

In Mallnitz you take the car-train to Böckstein and from there you drive downhill towards Bad Gastein where you do not enter the centre but continue to drive downhill (please hold left) until you reach the bottom of the valley and there at the first crossing you will find indicated „Kötschachdorf - Remsach“ and also „ HOTEL SONNGASTEIN“ and you turn right. You go on for about one kilometre then you go over a bridge and immediately turn left, after 50 m you will see our hotel.

Coming from the West (from Switzerland or from Tirol) it is best to take the Inntal motorway and leave it at the exit "Wörgl-Ost" and continue via Söll, St. Johann in Tirol, Hochfilzen until you reach Saalfelden. There you go on in direction to Zell am See and then Bad Hofgastein. You never leave the main road. Then you come to a roundabout and you go straight on. After ca. 1,8 km you will find indicaded "Kötschachdorf-Remsach" and also "Hotel Sonngastein" and you turn left. You continue for about one kolometre and then you cross a bridge and immediately turn left, cross another little bridge and go straight on, after 50 m you will see our hotel.

Coming from the East, i.e. from Vienna, Munich or Salzburg, you leave the motorway in Bischofshofen in direction "Gasteinertal" and from there on continue on the national route passing St. Johann im Pongau and Schwarzach. A few kilometers after Schwarzach you turn left and drive through the tunnel into the Gastein valley. Once in the Gastein valley you pass Dorfgastein and then Bad Hofgastein. You never leave the main road. Then you come to a roundabout and you go straight aon. After ca. 1,8 km you will find indicaded "Kötschachdorf Remsach" and also "Hotel Sonngastein" and you turn left. You continue for about one kilometre and then you cross a bridge and immediately turn left, cross another little bridge and go straight on, after 50 m you will see our hotel.
